We take pride in the relationships we have developed with our community throughout the years. Farming is huge endeavor that involves a variety different vocations, from soil and livestock management, to policy development, to sales and distribution.
A few of our favorite groups will have representatives present to talk to you about their roles in regenerative agriculture, local farms, and food distribution to those that need it most.
Farming, especially urban farming, involves tremendous support from policy makers. Delegate Susie Proctor, of the Maryland House of Delegates, will be stopping by to show her support for local farming and regenerative agriculture.
The Maryland Farm Bureau is the voice of Maryland agriculture and a predominant force in agriculture policy development.
Soil conservation is a critical part of regenerative agriculture. We will have experts present to discuss the processes and techniques involved. Harrison Palmer, Soil Conservation Associate with the Prince George's County Soil Conservation District, will be available to answer questions.
The University of Maryland Extension Program is committed to providing a healthy food system to ensure global food and nutritional security. As part of this mission, the program provides extensive resources and support to local farmers. Charlie Sasscer, Prince George's County AgFS Extension Educator, and Rachel Slattery, the coordinator for the Dairy and Beef Extension in the Department of Animal and Avian Sciences, will both available to answer questions about livestock management, including animal health, herd management, nutrition, and forage management.
Lillian Shackelford Bush and Nadia Khan will be available to answer questions for anyone interested in the pre-veterinary process and what it is like to work on an urban farm.
Dr. Roxann Motroni, graduate of the University of California, Davis, will be available to answer questions about large animal veterinary science, as well as the ins-and-outs of running an urban farm.
The Capital Market of 20743 Farmers Market is a community-based farmers market serving Prince George's County that supports local businesses and farms operated by people of color. Their mission is to provide healthy, affordable food options and to advocate for equitable and culturally-aware food systems.
SouthEats Cooperative is a healthy meal delivery service for residents east of the Annacostia river in Washington DC. Their mission is to bridge the racial health and wealth while shifting the way people think about food. Additionally, they aim to eliminate food deserts, increase food access, and build an equitable local food system.
804 and a few of our partners will have products available to sell. Take a moment while you are exploring the farm to see what they have to offer.
Bowling Green Farm is one of our long time partners. They have the same high standards as 804 in that they only produce high quality, pasture-raised products. Stop by their table to pick up some of their local heritage pork, pastured chicken, and farm-fresh eggs.
Camella's Kitchen is an award-winning artisan market that specializes in the development of bold Caribbean flavors. They sell hot sauces, marinades, cakes, chutneys, and more. Their small batch products are all natural with no artificial preservatives or colors.
Joyful Moments Bakery is our own, on-farm bakery. Katie makes small batch cookies and cupcakes, as well as custom cakes and other desserts from scratch. Because Katie splits her time between her home in Virginia and the farm, she is able to provide services and products for both communities. Joyful Moments will be providing sweet treats to enjoy during the open house.
Bee Boots Honey is our own, on-farm honey shop. Stephen manages the beehives, harvests, and filters the honey himself on the farm. This high quality, raw honey is as fresh and as local as you can get. Once you try it, you may find it is a challenge to go back to the pre-packaged honeys you can find in stores.
Be sure to stop by our 804 Cattle Company table to pick up your favorite cuts of beef or some swag! We will have our full inventory available, as well as 804 Cattle Company branded t-shirts, coffee mugs, and insulated shopping bags.
